2019 Orangeville Elementary School Rankings
Friday Jan 25th, 2019
Earlier this week the Fraser Institute released its rankings of elementary schools across Ontario. These rakings are prepared by the Fraser Institute annually and compare elementary schools on the basis of academic performance using the standardized tests conducted by the provinces Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO). These tests are administered at the grade 3 and grade 6 levels and measure reading, writing and mathematics skills of the students in these grades.
This year Island Lake Public School was the top-rated Elementary School in Orangeville ranking 622 of 3,046 schools and earning a 7.4 rating, followed by Spencer Avenue Elementary School (796/3,046) with a rating of 7.1 and Montgomery Village Elementary School (865/3,046) which earned a rating 7.0 this year.
I have included a chart below which shows how the schools in Orangeville performed on the Fraser Institutes School Rakings this year. The chart indicates the school’s rank among the 3,046 schools in the province, the Grade 6 enrollment, the rating the school received in the 2017-18 school year and the change in the rating from the prior school year.

From year to year there are some rather significant changes in the school ratings so it is important to consider a trend over the last few years. Unfortunately, the trend data is not currently available from the Fraser Institute due to the job action during the 2014-15 school year.
When looking at the results, the Fraser Institute is clear this is strictly a comparison of the school’s performance academically on the EQAO tests. While academic performance is important, it should not be the only consideration someone should use when choosing where to send their child to school.
