Where has the summer gone? It’s the Labour Day Long Weekend and that means getting ready for back to school on Tuesday and a hectic weekend for kids and parents alike. There are some great family friendly events going on in our communities for you to check out if you can tear yourself away from back to school preparations.
It’s the Labour Day Long Weekend and that means two things the unofficial end of summer and the Orangeville Fall Fair. Friday through Monday come out to the Orangeville Fairgrounds and celebrate the with the Orangeville Agricultural Society with some great family friendly events, a midway, competitions, demolition derby, food vendors, a craft market, and so much more. The sun flowers are in bloom and if you want to go get some pictures in the fields you can go to Sweet Pea’s farm Saturday through Monday. There will be a barbecue and ice cream for purchase and bouncy castles and other activities for the kids. Go to the Facebook event page for more details.
You can also head to Dixie Orchards in Caledon today through Monday and check out their sunflower fields to get that perfect shot. There will be wagon rides and a corn maze for everyone to enjoy. Go to the Facebook event page for more details.
Friday Night there will be some OHL action coming to Orangeville with the Guelph Storm and the Mississauga Steelheads playing an exhibition game at Alder Arena. The game starts at 7:00 and admission is free so you will want to get there early.
Saturday morning stop by the Orangeville Farmers Market for some fresh produce and other great items from all the local vendors. The Market will be open from 8:00 am – 1:00 pm on Second Street beside Town Hall. While you are downtown Orangeville be sure to check out all the great shops and restaurants on Sidewalk Saturday. Getting ready for the school year is a busy time and making healthy lunches for our kids is a challenge. On Saturday from 10:00 - 11:00 am, Zehrs Orangeville will be hosting a health school lunch workshop presented by Brittany McMullan, RD. Saturday the Town of Erin is hosting another free outdoor movie night showing How to Tame Your Dragon 3 at Center 2000 starting at 8:30 pm. Bring your chairs and some snacks (and maybe a blanket given the evening temperatures) and enjoy a movie under the stars. Go to erin.ca for more information.
Monday head to Island Lake for the 7th Annual Island Lake Classic. This event offers a 10 KM run, 5 KM run/walk and a kids fun run. Registration begins at 9:00 am you can register online or at the event. Go to raceroster.com for more information and to register for one of the events.
