It’s Super Bowl Weekend and I couldn’t be more excited for the big game. My favourite team, the Kansas City Chiefs, are making their first appearance in the big game in 50 years. There are some great events going in our communities highlighted by the Great Canadian Pond Spiel at Island Lake.
Friday
Friday Upper Grand District School Board Schools will have a PD Day. If you are looking for something to do there is Free Public Skating in Grand Valley from 12:00 – 2:00 pm sponsored by the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation. Saturday
Saturday a great local tradition continues on Island Lake with the 11th Annual Pond Spiel hosted by the Orangeville Curling Club. Come out to Island Lake Conservation Area and check out some of the fun with teams curling out on the Lake. The participants will play one game on the lake and two games back at the Curling Club. Branching Out Support Service will be hosting an Escape Room on Saturday from 1:00 – 3:00 pm. Come out and enjoy a fun afternoon of games, puzzles, fun with friends and the escape room for children ages 7 – 12. Go to the Facebook event page for more details.
Saturday evening the Orangeville Army Cadets will be hosting the 1940's End of the War Gala, at In Memoriam Funeral Services at the Mono Plaza starting at 6:00 pm. This is a 1940’s theme dinner and party with live music and dancing that will raise funds for the Cadets. Come out support a great cause and have a fun evening. Saturday evening check out the Stand Up Comedy Night at the Orangeville Opera House from 7:00 – 10:00 pm. The lineup for the evening includes Chris Jarvie, Fiona O'Brien, DJ Brooks, Special Guest Tom Holman, and Headliner David Green. Get your tickets at tickets.theatreorangeville.ca.
The Hillsburgh Lions Club is hosting a Euchre Tournament on Saturday evening at the Hillsburgh Arena starting at 5:30 pm. Come out and enjoy a fun evening of cards and a chilli dinner. Sunday
Sunday there will be Free Public Skating at the Centre Dufferin Recreation Complex in Shelburne from 1:00 – 2:00 pm. Come out for some family fun and a little exercise out on the ice. For more information go to the Facebook event page.
It’s Groundhog Day! Will Punxsutawney Phil, Shubenacadie Sam, Wiarton Willie or any other prognosticating rodents see their shadows? For more information about Groundhog day in Canada go to timeanddate.com.
Sunday is the Super Bowl, and there are a variety of bars and pubs in the area showing the game. Kick-off is around 6:30 pm and I hope you will all cheer my beloved Kansas City Chiefs on the victory for their first super bowl in 50 years. GO CHIEFS!
