There is are many great family friendly events going on in our communities this weekend. Hopefully the weather will co operate so you can round up the family and get out and enjoy some of them.

Friday night you can check out Wannabe a Spice Girls Tribute Show at the OAS Event Centre at the Orangeville Fairgrounds. The show runs from 8:00 – 10:00 pm (doors open at 7:00) and will feature the music of the Spice Girls. This is an all ages event go to orangevilletoday.ca for tickets and more details.

The Summer Fair season has begun, head to Schomberg this weekend for the Schomberg Agricultural Fair. Thursday to Sunday you can check out the Midway, various demonstrations, live music and the demolition derby on Friday evening. Theatre Orangeville will be presenting Shake Rattle n’ Roll this weekend at the Orangeville Opera House. This show celebrates the best of Rock and Roll from the 50’s and 60’s featuring performances by the Theatre Orangeville Youth Singers. Shows are Friday and Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon go to theatreorangeville.ca for tickets and more details.

Start your Saturday with the Orangeville Farmers Market. From 8:00 am to 1:00 pm head down to Town Hall and visit all the great local vendors along Second Street. Visit the Orangeville Farmers Market on Facebook for more details about the market and some vendor profiles.

If you are going to the Farmers Market or if you are looking for some plants for your gardens, stop by the Orangeville Public Library, Mill Street Branch on Saturday morning from 8:00 am – Noon and support the Friends of the Orangeville Public Library Perennial Plant Sale. Saturday morning from 8:30 – 11:00 am stop by the Headwaters Healthcare Centre for their Annual Perennial Plant Sale. This a great opportunity to pick up some plants for your gardens and all proceeds are used to maintain the Friendship Gardens at the Headwaters Health Care Centre. Special Olympics Dufferin will be hosting its Annual Yard Sale Fundraiser on Saturday from 8:30 – 11:00 am in the parking lot at Staples on First Street in Orangeville. Go to the Facebook event page for more details.

Fiddlehead Care Farm is hosting a Family Farm Visit Day on Saturday morning from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm at their farm on 25 sideroad in Mono. You can visit with the animals, explore the trails and learn about gardening and farming. Go to the Facebook event page for more information and remember to dress for the weather.

Saturday is the Annual Grand Valley Lions Duck Race. This event is always a lot of fun for the whole family, the water is still high so this year’s race should be fast. Come out and see as 3,500 rubber ducks are dropped in to the Grand River, buy a ticket for a chance to win. The race starts at 2:00 but the day starts with a free community breakfast and there will be many things to do all day in Grand Valley. Go to Grand Valley Lions Club web site for more details.

If we end up getting the rain that is the forecast for Saturday you can stay dry at the Orangeville Public Library and check out the Family Movie Matinee showing the Secret Life of Pets. The show starts at 2:00 pm bring your drinks and snacks and enjoy the show.

It’s Kids Day at Caledon Equestrian Park on Saturday from 11:00 am – 3:00 pm. There will be lots of family fun with bouncy castles, face painting, and a horse show. Go to the Facebook event page for more details.

In the Hills Equine is hosting another Mini Farmer Drop In on Saturday from 2:00 – 3:00 pm. This event is geared for children aged 2 – 6 and will allow your children to visit the animals on the farm and participate in some farm activities. Go to inthehillsequine.ca for tickets and more details.

If you are out on the trails around Island Lake remember that Saturday is Trail Donation Day volunteers from the Friends of Island Lake will be out on the trial collecting donations to support future trail development and improvements. Go to the Facebook event page for more details.

Looking to do something outside? Sunday head to Island Lake Conservation Area for the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s in support of the Alzheimer Society of Dufferin County. Registration opens at 10:00 am with the walk beginning at 11:00 am with a lunch being served after the walk. Go to www.walkforalzheimers.ca for more information and to register for this event.

Sunday join the Pet Value Walk for Dog Guides, starting at 9:00 am at Lions Park on Diane Drive. Registration is a 9:00 the walk starts at 10:00 go to walkfordogguides.com to register or for more details.

On Sunday from 12:30 – 2:00 pm go to the Alder Recreation Centre for a Free Family Swim. It’s a great chance to get back into the water after the long winter we have had. Go to the Facebook event page for more details.

Hopefully the weather will co-operate this week for the Mulmur Farmers Market on Sunday at the Museum of Dufferin. The market runs from 12:00 – 4:00 pm head out to the this great location and show some support to the local vendors.

It’s not really local but since The Great Canadian Butter Tart Festival was such a success in Orangeville I though I’d share that the series will be in Fergus on Sunday from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm, at the Centre Wellington Sportsplex. Go to the Facebook event page for all the details.
